Maysaloon is an Extreme Metal Band from Syria. Formed in 2015 by Jake Shuker, Maysaloon's music is a defiant response to the horrors of the Syrian war, echoing bands such as Death, Dissection, Behemoth, Entombed, and Necrophobic, in addition to Middle Eastern folkloric music, with a distinct extreme Syrian death metal identity, characterized by beautiful melodies mixed with crushing riffs and percussions, building a massive wall of sound worthy of delivering history through their music. Defying all odds and dangers in their war-torn country, Maysaloon performed live in Syria countless times, often under bombs. They made their live debut in Damascus back in 2015, followed by a few more successful events throughout 2017 after releasing their debut album "The Forgotten Dawn" in the same year. In 2018, the band achieved many important milestones, kicking off the year by participating in "Latakia Rock City |||", as well as organizing and participating in the first "Metal United World Wide" event in the Arab region, which landed them a spot in "Beirut Metal Festival 2018", where they opened for Polish death metal masters Decapitated and German thrash legends Destruction. Having Forged their sound to convey the stories of Syria's glorious ancient past, Maysaloon garnered the attention and recognition of both the Arab region and the world. In 2019, Jake became the first Syrian metal musician to perform in the UK at the prestigious Imperial War Museum in London, which subsequently led the band to be featured in many world-renowned media outlets, such as BBC News, The Times, ITV News, WION News, in addition to Metal Hammer and Spark Rock Magazines. After four years since their debut album, Maysaloon released their crushing second record "A Lip to Earth, A Lip to Heaven and a Tongue to the Stars" in 2021, with the title being derived from the historical account of the "Baal Cycle". The album featured the band's metal adaptation of Hurrian Hymn 6, one of the oldest musical pieces discovered in Ugarit, Syria in the early 1950s, in addition to 7 more tracks that carefully yet enjoyably shed light on the history of the ancient Kingdom of Ugarit.
